“Lowlander Yarn Studio is a place where we can come together and share our passion for knitting and crocheting”
When I was a wee lass in the Lowlands of Scotland, Glasgow to be more specific, my favorite days were the drizzly, dreary, miserable, windy ones in the house, cozied up next to the fire with a cup of tea and a slice of buttered toast. “Sit at peace!” were familiar words from my wee mum’s mouth. Those were my fondest memories; My mum sitting next to the window, the rain battering the window panes behind her chair, knitting herself a wee storm of scarves for all the weans with winter fast approaching. I’d grab the ball of wool and run around her chair till I made myself dizzy and my feet numb, unraveling all the progress she had made.
Sitting on my bum had always been a problem. Until one day, another wet and windy one, when she couldn’t handle it any longer: She had me sit on her knee, took my hands into hers, put a knitting needle in each, and began to teach me in the exact same way her mother had taught her. “Patience is a virtue,” “focus on the end result, it’ll come.” – and I sat still on my bum ever since, letting the sound of raindrops on the windows carry me through my very own balls of wool to come.
– And that is where it all began my friends, skein by skein, stitch by stitch; taking those family knitting recipes with me 30 years on and into the new beginning of what is now known as Lowlander Yarn Studio.
